My fellow Citizens,
I want to thank each and every one of you that voted for me on November 8, 2011, for your vote! Sorry to say…I lost!
The “Ballot Box” made it profoundly clear that the vast majority of the fourteen percent (14%) of the registered voters that did vote, didn’t want me in office. Presumably they shared the Desert Sun’s opinion of me: former Mayor Bias is a “Lighting Rod for Controversy!”
My heart is heavy with regret that I failed those of you who supported me by starting my campaign late and for not taking the fight to the enemy! It’s clear that my passive approach was ineffective.
Granted, according to the Polls, the odds were overwhelming against me unseating Mayor Parks! I truly believed that if I could do so by informing the Voters of my former contribution to the City and by sharing my vision for its future that they would make the right choice and vote for me.
Yes, I am deeply disappointed in Mayor Parks' leadership performance. Yes, I could have taken the fight to Mayor Parks to the Council Chambers! If I had done so…I’m sure I could have delivered a theatrical performance that would have delivered me a few more votes!
Truth is... I had made a conscious decision to never do what she and her supporters did to me when I was Mayor: openly attack my personal ethics and integrity in City Council Meetings! Nor was I going to throw any more fuel on the fires already burning in City Hall. The City didn’t deserve it!
I still believe that my presumption that an informed electorate would vote for me was correct. Unfortunately, I started my campaign to late in the election cycle to debunk Mayor Parks boasted accomplishments and to fight her political machine. My websites were dynamite but my delivery platforms I used to promote them, Facebook and Billboard Signage, was too passive.
Rest assured that I will continue to maintain and expand my websites, www.mayorbias.com which is a Historical Site, and www.reelectmayorbias.com . I will also establish a Mayor Bias Facebook Blog to keep you connected with “my take” on Desert Hot Springs’ politics.
I will also make a concerted effort to ascertain why eighty-six percent (86%) of the Registered Voters in Desert Hot Springs are refusing to honor their civic duty to participate in the electoral process. The Status Quo, Desert Hot Springs’ Ruling Aristocracy, has been and continues to count on voter apathy in maintaining their strangle hold on our City!
Case in point: “ Mayor Parks told The Desert Sun (www.mydesert.com 11-09-11) that she spoke with Baker before she pulled her endorsement. But she wasn’t worried the mailers would give voters the wrong message. “People who don’t read newspaper and don’t watch television and are not interested in civic politics might believe it. But they probably won’t be voters,” Parks said of the idea that they’re campaigning together.”
I remain committed to changing the political status quo in Desert Hot Springs! To do so, I must find a cure of the “DHS Voting Apathy Syndrome” plagues 86% of our electorate between now and the next election cycle. My mission is two-fold. I have to isolate the causal factor(s) the electorate use to justify not voting. I will then have to develop a “strategic plan” to negate those factors and engaged them in “civic politics.”
Stay tuned my friends! I will need your support in the very near future! Sooo...Be ready for the call to arms! In the interim I suggest that we all keep our City in our prayers!
God Bless and Peace Out!
When I became Mayor in 2005 the City Government was in shambles. We had an Interim City Manager, an Interim City Attorney, a dysfunctional Police Department, the City ‘s Bond Rating had dropped from “A” to “C “ (due to having filed Bankruptcy, limiting our ability to borrow), plus, there were ongoing Grand Jury Investigations and an F.B.I. Probe!
Quite literally, when I took office, I had to create order out of chaos!
My first order of business was to have the Municipal Code Validated. Next, my colleagues and I hired a City Manager ( Ann Marie Gallant) and a City Attorney (Ruben Duran). Our next challenge was to reorganize the Police Department, which took some doing, but we did it! We then hired a “permanent” Police Chief (Chief Williams) to head the Department!
We moved on to develop a viable
Community Design Plan which continues to be used as the “Blueprint” for building our City’s future.
We elevated our Bond Rating from a “C “back to an “A.”
I successfully lobbied Riverside County for a Medical Center (now near completion).
As a Board Member of Sunline Transit, I successfully lobbied for a new Bus Line Route 15 (dedicated Oct. 2011).
As a Board Member of RCTC, I worked on securing the Palm Drive /I-10 Interchange (now near completion).
There was no frivolous, misguided, government spending during my administration!
I have shown Business Management Entrepreneurial Skills with emphasis on fiscal accountability. If elected, I’m prepared to lead the City of Desert Hot Springs and it’s Citizens through these tough economic times and together we will reach the pinnacle of success and prosperity that we all so...richly deserve!
Here’s what Marion Ashley, 5th District Supervisor County of Riverside, said about me after I left the office of Mayor in Dec. 2007.
"Alex is an intelligent, thoughtful and analytical person with vision. He follows up on projects well and is interested and careful in whatever he undertakes...His extensive real estate background also provides him with unique experience in dealing with economic development opportunities as well as real estate situations."
